Dominic Rickhi receives the cricket gears from his Pepsi Teammates Kumar Madray (left) and Surrendra Kissoonlall
National Under-19 selectee, Dominic Rickhi, a member of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, on Saturday last received $40,000 worth of cricket gear from members of the Rose Hall Town Pepsi Under-19 and Gizmos & Gadgets First Division cricket teams.
Rickhi, who is widely regarded as the most promising junior batsman in Guyana left this week to represent Guyana in the Regional Under-19 Tournament in St Lucia. He received a cricket bat, one pair of batting gloves and batting pads.
Secretary/CEO of the Club Hilbert Foster at the presentation at the Club’s Area ‘H’ Ground urged Rickhi to be a positive Sports Ambassador for the club, Berbice and Guyana.
He urged the prolific middle order batsman to remember at all times the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club’s formula for success that has guided him throughout his career.
That formula, Foster said consists of discipline, hard work, dedication, respect for others and a strong faith in God.
The long standing administrator advised Rickhi to take full advantage of his selection and to set himself very high standards as he was representing a club which only believed in excellence and that he was following in the footsteps of several outstanding national junior cricketers the likes of Assad and Abdel Fudadin, Royston and Esuan Crandon, Neil Williams, Shawn Grant and Shemaine Campbell.
Rickhi, who would be the 19th cricketer from the Club to represent Guyana at the junior level, expressed gratitude to his teammates stating that he was proud to be a member of Guyana’s leading Youth & Sports Club.
He promised to uphold the club’s high traditions and to be among the top batsman in the tournament. Vice captain of the Pepsi Under-19 and member of the Gizmos & Gadgets First Division Team Loyden Lewis told Rickhi that his teammates were proud of him and urged him to make at least two centuries.
Lewis, who was also a standby player for the National Under-19 Team, while expressing some disappointment at not being able to tour with Rickhi, expressed full confidence in his teammate’s ability to go on to become a Test player in the future.
Meanwhile, the Executive Committee of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club has appointed Mr. Ravindranauth Kissoonlall to act as the club’s CEO from July 5 to August 9 in the absence of Foster who is overseas. Moonish Singh will serve as deputy to Kissoonlall.
