….as Ramsaroop blasts state media, renews calls for Broadcast Legislation
Politician Peter Ramsaroop of Vision Guyana said that the State Media which relentlessly covered false information on the incident involving the illegal search by the Police has not seen it fit to publish that his case is closed and the police have returned all equipment by order of the Chief Justice (ag) Ian Chang.
Ramsaroop said that it is only the independent newspapers especially KN which provided fair coverage and exposed the political hand in smearing his name.
He lashed out at operatives of the State Media, including Dr. Randy Persaud, who he said was responsible for writing some of the stories first published in the Chronicle when he was not even assigned as a reporter.
He also said that Guyana Times published front page stories but have now refused to publish the close of the case and the illegal search warrant.
Ramsaroop also contended through his sources that a senior government official promised his son’s fiancee help with her American Visa if she can get him to turn on his father who he felt opposed their relationship.
He said the state media refused to verify any of the information published but on more than 30 occasions even in stories not related to him put his name and case.
“The constant call for all state media to close doors and privatise must be stepped up especially when government uses our taxpayers’ money to tarnish the opposition parties.”
He said they even published that he attended a meeting with Raphael Trotman in Miami when that was absolutely false again demonstrating the incompetence.
Ramsaroop said that the government should refer the state media to the ERC, instead of the independent newspapers.
He added also that they are in the process of preparing litigation at false accusations by his tenant Nicole Ming, the illegal search warrant and the libelous printing of information by the state media and its outlets.
The politician also used the opportunity to re-emphasise the need for Broadcast Legislation which would allow for set parameters that would ensure fair reportage.
