Fifty-six year-old security guard, Sukhdeo Pargass, also known as Glassie, of 78 Factory Dam, Unity Village, East Coast Demerara, lost his life in a horrific manner on Wednesday afternoon .
This newspaper was told that in the vicinity of Musket Hall, Unity, on the East Coast Highway, two double-axle trucks were apparently being raced along the road.
The vehicles were reportedly proceeding towards Mahaica.
Pargass, who was on his way home, was walking along the side of the roadway in the same direction. One of the trucks was said to have lost a wheel, when the vehicles drew level with each other and with the pedestrian.
As the truck veered out of control, the wheel that came off hit Pargass, causing him to fall into the path of the vehicle which then caught his clothing and dragged him along the roadway for a fair distance, until the driver managed to bring the vehicle to a stop.
Pargass was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, but died before he could receive treatment.
The driver of the truck is currently in police custody.
Pargass’ four grown children, three boys and a girl, had lost their mother only a short while before.
