Over ten teams have already confirmed participation for the upcoming Castrol Strikers / Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF)-organised Tournament which is being sponsored by Tradewind Tankers, Shipping Company based in Barcelona, Spain.
The tournament which is expected to commence on July 17 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall will see teams from Berbice, Linden, West Demerara and Georgetown battle each other over a period of three months at different venues.
The teams from Berbice are Rollers, Port Mourant Jaguars, an Under-19 unit and Port Mourant Training School, while the West Demerara will be represented by two teams from Young Achievers and Goed Fortuin.
It was disclosed that Linden, the GDF and a Georgetown-based female squad will join host Castrol Stikers.
Three formats will be used during the competition and they are the 2s, 4s and 6s and teams will need a minimum of seven players.
The first two months winners and second placed finishers will receive $20,000 and $10,000 respectively, while the overall champion will take away a top prize of $80,000, runners-up $40,000 and third place $20,000.
The dates for play are as follows: July 17&24 CASH and Goed Fortuin; August 14&28 Berbice and September 11 &18 CASH.
According to the Organisers, games will start at 13:00 hrs on July 17, while the official Opening Ceremony begins at 17:00 hrs.
Registration which closes on July 14 is $2,000 per team, while no entrance fee will be charged.
