Dear Editor,
It was rather interesting to read of President Jagdeo telling CARICOM Heads of Government what they must do to improve the financial state of their countries when Guyana is nearly last in per capita GDP as noted on the table at left:
What is more interseting is hearing the President talk about development in Guyana, when it is clear that all of CARICOM, with the exception of Haiti has developed at a much faster rate than Guyana. So much so that Guyanese are leaving in droves to enter any and all of the CARICOM countries to live and work.
On reading Jagdeo’s speech, I was really wondering if I live in a different Guyana from the one he governs and talks about. One is which everything is wonderful but we know, there is no water, no electricity, no garbage collection, no public transportation, little police protection, terrible schools, many without any play areas and more that have not been changed/upgraded in the last 50 years, few new industries, high corruption and crime and poor governance.
