Lennox ‘Pretty Boy’ Allen is scheduled to return to the ring some six months after notching up a convincing victory over Puerto Rican Amador Aceveda at the Mid Hudson Civic Centre, Poughkeepsie, New York. This time he will oppose Victor Paz on Saturday July 10 at the same venue of the Aceveda bout.
Allen spoke with this reporter yesterday morning from his New York base and confirmed that all systems are in place for the 6 rounds super/middleweight bout. The lanky southpaw who trains at the Trinity Boxing Gym, Manhattan USA, under the tutelage of Colin Morgan, is oozing confidence ahead of the bout.
He said that he is currently undergoing a stiff training regiment which commences early in the morning at the Wintrop Training Centre in Brooklyn. Allen explained that this is an open air facility that is conducive to outdoor work. He said that he commences his sessions with stretching before moving into heavier work which consists of 4 miles of rigid running, strengthening exercises and calisthenics. Later on he returns to the Trinity Boxing Gym for sparring sessions, technical work and more strengthening exercises. Allen admits that he knows little about his opponent but is unperturbed since he is confident of counteracting whatever the Latino fighter has to offer.
This is Allen’s second bout since returning to the USA. In the first, he punched out a unanimous points decision over Puerto Rican Amador Aceveda at the same venue of next Saturday’s bout. The victory has pushed his record up to an impeccable 10 fights without a loss. The two fighters were scheduled to box over six rounds and Allen admitted that he had nurtured high hopes of winning by knockout. After the bout he admitted that the task had proven to be a daunting one since the Puerto Rican was not a pushover. “This guy is Hispanic and you know how they are; he is as tough as nails,” Allen had said then.
Meanwhile, Allen’s career is now being piloted by one Mario who is a part of a promotional group dubbed ‘Boxing 360.’ A perusal of the internet revealed that the group is indeed authentic and already the managers have contracted several notable fighters to the New York based company. One of these fighters, Chicago heavyweight, Mike Mollo (19-3-12 KOs) was offered an exclusive promotional contract. Mollo has had victories over Mike Tyson, during his amateur days, former Irish heavyweight champion, Kevin McBride (TKO 2) and Canadian Art Binkowski. Mollo was also involved in epic slugfests against Andrew Galota and Jameel McCline, in their WBA Fedelatin and WBC eliminator bouts.
Allen’s career was temporarily stalled because of pressing immigration matters. He has since disclosed that those issues have been amicably resolved paving the way for the resumption of his career.
