– As Elcock stable reigns supreme in overcast conditions
The second half of the 2010 Horseracing season kicked off on Sunday when the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports facilities successfully held its grand one-day Meet.
Despite the inclement weather which saw the day’s activity run in wet and somewhat murky conditions the eight races were contested in front of an appreciative crowd.
It was action none stop in spite of the damp conditions as Miss Republic of the Colin Elcock Delmur Trading Company stable made sure that its owner did not give it such a name in vain as it lived up to its pre race billing with a crushing win in the feature ‘C’ class race to take pole position along with the $350,000 available and the Banks DIH Trophy over a distance of 1400M.
Running on its home track Miss Republic piloted by jockey Paul Delph proved that it hasn’t loss any of its sting of past as it surged to front with consummate ease to win from stable mate Delmur Gold with Yap Drepaul in the stirrups.
As the race broke Delmur Gold took to the front hotly pursued by Annie’s Play Mate of the Sohan stable.
However, soon after it was Miss Republic that took up the lead as it traded places with Delmur Gold in a ding dong battle that lasted into the home stretch.
With the experienced jockey Paul Delph in the mount and timing his run to perfection Miss Republic started to pick its stride nicely as it distanced itself from its rival to win handsomely and spark wild celebration from the home based fans as Annie’s Playmate finished third.
The co-feature event the 3yr old race for horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies which was sponsored by the RCMTC and Trans Pacific for the Ryan Crawford Memorial Trophy over a distance of 1400 M that had a similar $350,000 first prize on offer saw Peaceful of the Elcock stable weathering the heavy conditions en route to a convincing win, producing a storming run down the home stretch to come home a head of stalemate Celebration Time.
The first half of the race was as exciting as it could get with Peaceful, Celebration Time, Megan’s Choice and Five Star General all battling for the lead.
However, as the horses took the turn on the far side heading into the homestretch it was Peaceful with Jockey Yap Drepaul in the saddles that produced a blistering turn of speed that left the opposition in its wake and went on to win by a comfortable five lengths. Celebration Time with Delph on Board came home ahead of Megan’s Choice and Five Star General.
It was a bright day for horses of the Elcock Stables as Face the Music with Delph aboard swept all and sundry in running away the ‘E’ class 1400M event.
Showing how it should be done, the horse faced up to the challenge as it surged from the back to win the $240,000 first prize from Mattarazzi, Laura lee In Flight and World Class.
The ‘G’ class event was taken by Maracas Star of the Jumbo jet stable with Yap Drepaul on the mount as it distanced itself from The Gap, Face the Music and Casino Royal.
The win was worth $160,000, with the distance being 1200M.
Sabrina’s Joy of the Jumbo Jet stable and piloted by Yap Drepaul made sure it was a joyous day for connections of the entity with their second win, taking the 2 yr old event and the first prize of $180,000, relishing the conditions to come home ahead of Wicked Intentions, Nordan and Sweet Brother Land in that order over 1000M.
Wicked Intention was awarded the top prize as the top locally bred two years old in that category.
