The Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) Sports Club and De Sinco Trading Establishment will be hosting a one-week Kiddies cricket development camp at the GYO cricket ground on Woolford Avenue, Thomas Lands from July 12-17.
Over 40 kids between the ages of 7-13 years will be in attendance between the hours of 08:45hrs and 15:00hrs.
Each of the 12 club from within the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) area, will have at least 2 such attendees. GYO and DeSinco will be looking after all the needs of these children during these hours and days.
The objectives of the camp are to focus on fostering discipline on and off the field, learning cricket skills and laws of the game, having a basic education on fitness and nutrition, developing mental skills and awareness, among other things.
To realize these objectives, the joint effort of GYO and DeSinco will involve the utilization of a Camp Director, and bowling, batting and fielding coaches, and special tutors.
There will be visual aids and printed manuals for the kids. A well drawn up programme of events for each day has been done through the combined effort of experts in the game, Ravendra Seeram and Robin Singh. GYO/DeSinco wishes to thank them for this assistance.
Additionally, there will be a formal launch of the brand new all-weather day/night practice facility which has been installed at GYO through the joint efforts of GYO and DeSinco.
This launch will take place on 17:30hrs on Saturday 10th July. Already a number of high ranking cricket officials who have seen the facility, including Mr. Chetram Singh and Mr. Roger Harper, have commended the club for making these advances.
Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan, President of GYO, and Mr.Frank De Abreau, CEO of DeSinco, both indicated that these two efforts – the practice facility and the one week Kiddies clinic – are positive moves towards the realization of the vision of making GYO a nursery for good young cricketers for the Georgetown area and the county of Demerara.
Both noted that this will help in bringing back the passion and competitiveness in youngsters for the lovely game of cricket.
They both felt that it is from the formative years and at a young age where they are guided in the right channel in relation to cricket, and to get West Indians back to the top of the cricketing world.
