Nearly all the top competitors in every category have confirmed participation for the second round of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club Race Meeting which is scheduled to be staged on July 18, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Fans will be eager to see the renewed rivalry between Mark Vieira in his more reliable Mazda RX8 and Andrew King in his Mazda RX7 tube-framed.
Vieira, who had taken a one-year break from the sport to set up his new vehicle performed creditably recently at the first leg of the Caribbean Series which was held in Jamaica will be eager to reclaim his throne after being unseated by the reigning champion King that many felt forced him to take some time away from the sport.
However, the most in-form driver in the division Kevin Jeffrey might have a lot to say about the outcome of the day’s rivalry in the marquee category.
The last time King and Vieira met, King dominated the rivalry after Vieira suffered mechanical problems.
In the Group 3 division, Ryan Rahaman, who drives a Ford Sierra has been the most dominant driver, but he could expect competition from the likes of veteran Kamal Seebarran and Gavin Gayadin, who told this newspaper recently that he has made a lot of modifications to his BMX 4AGE turbo-charged car and aims to throw down the gauntlet on his rivals.
The Group 2B another of the heavily subscribed division is always full of excitement and once again Rahaman is expected to dominate in his Ford Escort, but drivers such as Mohamed Roshandin, Vishaul Sawh and Gavin Gouveia could stand in his way.
The Superbikes category has been dominated by Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira with Maurice Menezes as the bridesmaid, but the latter has been gaining valuable experience from his overseas sojourns and could spring a surprise.
He challenged Vieira at the last Meet, before suffering mechanical failure, but fans are being warned not to count him out.
The 125cc division is another event that could have racing fans on their feet as the likes of Charlie Henry, Vassy Barry, Stephen Vieira and Ravi Singh battle for supremacy.
The Shifter-karts are always a crowd pleasing affair and you could expect drivers such as the veteran Stanley Ming and his son Stanley jnr., Marcus Fiedtkou, Jerry Max Gouveia and Shane Ally to thrill the fans with their skills.
The 2A and Rookies categories are also exciting races to watch so fans could expect a full day of thrilling competition among the best riders and drivers locally.
