Most of the top teams locally have signalled their intentions to participate in the Castrol Strikers / Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF)-organised Tournament which is being sponsored by Tradewind Tankers, Shipping Company based in Barcelona, Spain. According to the Organisers, the tournament is expected to run over three months with games being played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, West Demerara and Berbice two weekends in each month.
Three formats will be used and they are the 2s, 4s and 6s and teams will need a minimum of seven players.
The first two months winners and second placed finishers will receive $20,000 and $10,000 respectively, while the overall champion will take away a top prize of $80,000, runners-up $40,000 and third place $20,000.
The dates for play are as follows: July 17&24 CASH and Goed Fortuin; August 14&28 Berbice and September 11 &18 CASH.
Word from the respective camps is that the teams have already started to intensify preparations with Castrol Strikers practicing at the CASH, while the teams from West Demerara including Young Achievers are honing their skills at the Community Centre.
Teams such as Rollers from Berbice are also anticipated to be part of the competition.
