It was Region 10’s day at the National Schools Basketball Festival yesterday when two of its teams in the tournament, Kwakwani and New Silver City Secondary both reached the Under-18 semi-finals with comfortable wins.
Kwakwani Secondary thrashed a Berbice combined team 57-37 with Dominique Douglas and Dave Plass scoring 21 points each. Kwakwani is also in the Final Four of the Under-16 contest after those quarter-finals wrapped on Thursday. Antonio Cornelius was the leading scorer for Berbice with 21 points. Vieth Mendonca supported with seven points for the team that will exit the competition.
New Silver City joined Kwakwani in the semis with a 45-27 points win against Charlestown Secondary with all its main offensive players in double figures as Linnell Warden scored 15 points, Marlon Pollydore 14 points and Yanick Primo 10 points. Sheldon Noel had 12 points. Up to press time yesterday Marian Academy looked set to also be in the Final Four of the competition with a comfortable lead in the first half. The competition is to continue today with an All-Star game.
