Dear Editor,
The local press has become inundated with ideas from all quarters of an impending coalition of sorts that would guarantee an ouster for the PPP/C party.
This latest flurry of information has come about following the successful coalition attempt in Trinidad and individuals believe the same can be replicated here in Guyana.
I would not be a prophet of doom rather I give the would-be aspirers my blessings as they move forward with their new found inspiration.
However, I would like to lay down a few pertinent facts firstly, who would lead the coalition into the next election?
At the present moment we have the pick of the likes of Robert Corbin whom one can consider an off again now on again aspirant, one who does not know or cannot make up his mind. Didn’t he say he is not running for presidential office?
Certainly we would not see the likes of Khemraj Ramjattan leading the pack whilst Raphael Trotman is alive.
The echelons in the AFC sees Ramjattan as a “coolie” – I have deliberately used this word to prove a point and I hope this is not misconstrued – who can never be considered as leadership material. He has been thrown under the bus and he knows it.
So we are left with two individuals Freddie Kissoon and Mark Benschop two contrary partners who have come to notoriety over the years.
Freddie has risen to prominence with the thrilling performance of “that substance” throwing event. Not yet in a political grouping, but latest news suggests he is planning to join the fight. Now Benschop has supposedly put aside his violent attempts at a PPP/C removal and being the chief citizen of Georgetown, for a run at the highest office of the land.
So once again the next election promises to be a very interesting event I eagerly await the day.
