Dear Editor,
I have seen Ms Backer’s letter in great admiration for coalitions. She has now become a great advocate of that strategy.
But Ms Backer has missed the point. The PPP is the first Party to have worked to build coalitions. It succeeded in 1992 to build a huge coalition, the PPP/Civic. This coalition brought together forces from various classes and in Guyana.
That coalition succeeded in removing the PNC dictatorial regime and restoring democracy in our country. It is still going strong and under this coalition Guyana advanced in every area of life.
Ms Backer and others who obviously benefit from the PNC dictatorship is now trying to build a coalition to return to dictatorship rule.
Let us not forget that the PNC got into office via a coalition and improved its dictatorial rule.
Those who forget the past are condemned to make the same mistakes.
