Success XI defeated Regal Masters XI by 40 runs and booked their place in the quarter-finals when play in the 4R Masters’ Cup and Females Softball Cricket tournament continued on Sunday June 27 last.
Success Masters won the toss and batted first, scoring 163-9 in 25 overs. Azim Mualla scored a disciplined 45 in the face of good spin bowling from Anil Hardyal who ended with 3-25 from five overs.
Regal Masters were set back at the start of their innings, losing 4 wickets in quick succession. They were eventually dismissed for 123 in 18 overs. Anil Hardyal (42) was the only batsman to offer any resistance in the face of some accurate bowling by Rafman Ali (4-23 from 4 overs). The eventual winners were also guilty of grassing some 6 catches despite their convincing victory. The losers have a slim chance of progressing but will be required to win all of their remaining matches while Mahaica Masters XI will have to suffer a similar number of losses.
Meanwhile in the Female Category, Kitty All Stars mauled Marshon Sports Club of Annandale by 44 runs after the overs were reduced due to inclement weather. Kitty All Stars won the toss and batted scoring 78-4 after their captain, Tracy Glasgow lashed a top score of 25 with support from Gangadai Singh (16).
In reply Marshon SC failed to find a rhythm and were eventually dismissed for 34 in 3 overs. Bowling for the winners, Nalini Persaud was virtually unplayable grabbing 5-5 from 1.4 overs including a hat-trick in her first over.
In the other female encounter between Trophy Stall Angels and Lusignan Street Warriors XI, the former team made light work of the latter by six wickets. Street Warriors XI batted first and scored 65-5 in 10 overs with skipper Dawn Nicholas leading the batting averages with 20. Nalini Sumintra took 2-10 in her only over while Rozanne Singh took 2-14 from 2 overs to take the bowling honours for Trophy Stall Angels. That team then lashed off the required total (66-4) in 5.3 overs. Sumintra complimented her bowling with a superb batting display and finished with an unbeaten 23. Rozanne Singh supported with a stroke filled, unbeaten 22.
Meanwhile, the organizers are hoping for favourable weather for other matches over the coming weekend.
