The 2011 Guyana Cricket Board season for Junior Cricket does not start until next March when the Inter-county Under-15 tournament would be played but the Berbice Cricket Board would start its preparation for the season in September of this year. This pro-active move was announced by Treasurer of the Board and Senior member of its Special Events Committee Anil Beharry on Sunday at the Albion Community Centre Cricket Ground.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the Captaincy Seminar for junior Captains, Beharry disclosed that an Elite Training Programme would be launched for 60 cricketers from the Under-13 to 19 levels in early September.
The Junior Elite Training programme would be similar in nature to the senior programme which attracted 40 players.
The sessions would be held at the Albion Community Centre Cricket Ground with players training as a unit twice weekly under the guidance of four coaches that would be selected by the Board. Both male and female cricketers would be selected.
Committee Chairman, Hilbert Foster stated that the Board would also be organising numerous seminars and clinics for the squad while matches would be arranged with their senior counterparts to allow them to compete at a higher level.
Additional players would be added to the list based on performance, discipline and attitude during tournaments that would be organised at both the Club and Inter-zone levels.
The BCB hopes to select all junior cricket teams (U-15, 19 and Female U-19) at least four weeks before Inter County tournaments to allow the Coaches and supported team enough time to properly prepare the teams.
