Brazil beat Chile today with three fantastic goals. In my opinion, they are the best side in the world and will probably win the World Cup. Chile too are a good footballing side – their Argentinean manager has them playing in a very attacking manner and it was thought they would give Brazil some problems but Brazil proved too strong in the end. With their ability to defend and attack, their speed and their strength, they are the most well-balanced team in the tournament.
Netherlands beat Slovakia 2-1 including a great goal from star player, Wesley Sneijder, and now go on to face Brazil. I do believe they have a chance against the Brazilians, but I expect Brazil to beat them in what should be a close encounter.
Slovakia scored in the last minute but Netherlands deserved to win. As yet in this tournament, they haven’t come face-to-face with a side of real quality but this will all change next week when the quarter finals begin.
Tomorrow (today), Paraguay take on Japan in the last of the knockout games. Japan, like South Korea, have shown desire, spirit and organisation but, at this level, they will need more than that – and though they have a chance – I expect Paraguay will prove too much for them.
Spain take on Portugal in the Iberian derby tomorrow (today) and, whilst I think Portugal have the best back-four in the tournament and haven’t conceded a goal thus far, to have a chance against Spain, they need Ronaldo to play well. He will be playing against some of his club mates and I think the pressure lies on him to play well to give Portugal a chance of winning. Spain are very good on the ball and with Torres up the front, they are likely winners of tomorrow’s (today’s) match.
