Cops 6th at IFPA Pro Figure Show in Cayman Islands
The second man to compete as a professional bodybuilder for Guyana Sylvan Gardner has just returned to these shores following competition at two international shows, in Miami and the Cayman Islands.
At the Musclemania Universe Show which took place in Miami Florida on June 18-19, Gardner placed 10th out of 16 competitors and competing at the International Fitness & Physique Association (IFPA) Pro Figure Show in Grand Cayman Islands on June 26 for the first time, Gardner placed 6th in a lineup of 9 athletes.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sports yesterday, Gardner said that both shows were very competitive and he tried his best at both ends. “The competition was stiff at both competitions but I tried. The Miami show was one of my toughest to date as a Professional. In the Cayman Islands competing there for the first time was good for me and I am somewhat satisfied with the way I performed there,”
Gardner, who won his Pro Card in 2008 at the Musclemania Super Body Show held in New York, said he is aiming to compete at least twice per year but that depends on the level of financing he is able to obtain.
The Buddies Gym Instructor notes that at the Professional level he competes open since at this level, weight class does not matter. “Many persons are still of the view that I still compete as a bantamweight but that is not so, at this level there is no weight limitations you have to compete as you are, big or small.”
Gardner said he is very grateful to all those corporate entities and individuals who have made it possible for him to compete at Musclemania and IFPA.
