East Coast Flex Check and New Amsterdam Free Credit have qualified for the semi-finals of the Digicel Summer Smash National twenty/20 cricket competition following the completion of the final round of matches in the super six stage which were played on Sunday at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success.
Played in front of a large and colourful crowd which included national selectors Ravindra Seeram and Michael Hyles Franco, East Coast Flex Check defeated West Demerara Javelins by 3 runs in the first game.
East Coast Flex Check batted first and scored 100-4 after the game was reduced to 15 overs due to rain. Ex-West Indies opener Ryan Ramdass led with 47 (3×6,3×4) and shared in a 21 run first wicket stand with Chris Patandin (08) as the East Coast team were off to a bright start.
Wasim Haslim (17) and Zaheer Mohamed (12n.o) were the next best scorers as Balram Samaroo grabbed 3-26 off 4 overs.
West Demerara Javelins then responded with 97-8 off their allotted overs. Chien Gittens top scored with an unbeaten 28 while Andrea Percival and Lennox Cush contributed 16 and 13 respectively. Ravi Singh was East Coast main wicket taker with 3-16 off 3 overs and Videsh Lall took 2-13 while there were one wicket each for Darron Peters, Imran Khan and Mohamed.
In the second encounter New Amsterdam Free Credit got the better of South Essequibo Storm by 8 runs. New Amsterdam Free Credit took first strike and made 143-9 in a game which was reduced to 17 overs. Former National U-19 player Eugene La Fleur was their leading run scorer with 42 (3×4,3×6) while Anthony Bramble supported with 36 (5×4,1×6) and Eon Hooper 24 (2×6).
Offspinner Royan Federicks was the pick of the bowlers for the home team with 4-42 off 4 overs while there was a wicket each for Trevor Benn, Jason Heyliger and Robert Moore.
South Essequibo Storm, who were cheered on by the crowd, mustered 135-7 in 17 overs in reply. Former National U-19 player Dellon Heyliger scored 31 (2×4,2×6) and received support from Jason Heyliger 26 (1×4,1×6) and Trevor Benn 25 (1×4,3×6). Keyron Fraser bagged 3-22 from 4 overs while Eon Hooper captured 2-31 off 2 overs. Kellon Henry and Floyd Matheson also took one wicket each for the winners.
Meanwhile the New Amsterdam Free Credit and East Coast Flex Check have now joined Georgetown Flex Text and Upper Corentyne Free Weekend in the semi-finals of the competition.
This competition is being used to select the Guyana team to participate in the regional twenty/20 tournament. (Zaheer Mohamed)
