Dear Editor,
Politics the world knows is a dirty game. It stokes controversy and conflicts and breeds hate, racism, war and genocide.
In every continent of the Globe, whether it’s dictatorship, democratic, capitalism, or communist rule, the political arena takes centre stage in its unequivocal dominance and shapes the destiny of a country and its people.
The history of this country has been scarred by racial violence and as election date draws closer, the ugliness of hate and violence lurks on the horizon waiting to unleash it’s fury on the populace.
The dark forces of the past, genius minds whose obsession with power was so great it drove a wedge between the two races that created a myth of unwarranted hate, intimidation and distrust. That people of this country have come a long way from then to now, but the wound is not allowed to heal for the dogs of war are awaken on election season. History it seems has taught some political leaders nothing, for as love as you play the race hate game, you win nothing. Race hate should not be used as a weapon for political gains. That was yesterday, this is today, the present and the major political parties should let history rest in peace, paving a way for love and unity to prevail and let a new tomorrow begin.
The time has come for a change!
The racial violence and tension hurt not the political leaders, who are the producers and the directors of the show, but hurts the people and tear holes in the social fabric of their lives. Some of the greatest minds, this country has and those on the political platform trying to gain a foothold are trying to inject into people’s minds through condemnation and criticism cries of discrimination, marginalisation, injustices and elected dictatorship.
The big question is – Do the people of this country need this?
Do these critics not see the camaraderie of the races, in the intermingling of the culture in fashion, dance, religious celebrations, at church, at school, at play?
Why try to ruin what the six races of this country over the decades have accomplished, love, tolerance and harmony?
Critics should let their pens and voices project instead a new political culture where potential leaders must possess genuine interests for the people and for the country with new visions and aspirations, someone with charisma and dynamism, not obsessed with powers and richness nor tainted with the dirt of the past, someone who can stand on a podium and command and hold the people’s interest with a strong, inspiring speech of the way forward, a refreshing change that will build their hopes so they can look towards a bright new future.
Our Executive President won The Champion of the Earth award, quite deservingly so, but he will not take home the Oscar for his role in his two terms as President because his support cast failed to live up to the true mandate of the Party’s policies. He as president was not strong enough nor bold enough to correct the wrongs, to rid the party of those undeserving of the office they hold, where corruption, greed, aggression and selfishness played too much of a part, thus ruining what should have been a perfect picture. Many hate him for the bad and the ugly that he did not slam the door shut on, but he is loved for the good, the promises he fulfilled, for the development that has taken shape, with many rewarding accomplishments and for holding hands with all six races to start the rebuilding process, socially and economically. He had laid the foundation and built a platform for a new leader to take the stage.
Who will step forward?
