As police continue to scour the Mowasi Landing area for the gunman known as ‘Blacka’, they are reportedly investigating leads which indicate that the fugitive has been wounded.
According to information received, the gunman who allegedly killed 20-year-old miner Devon Baird was himself wounded in the abdomen and shoulder during the shootout with Baird.
However, it is unclear whether the suspect was seriously injured.
Ranks from Mahdia have been unable to locate the gunman, despite intensive searches in the area where the shooting occurred.
Kaieteur News understands that the gunman, whom police are hunting, was suspected to have been shot in the leg last year during a confrontation with lawmen.
However, he reportedly escaped from the Mahdia Hospital.
According to one report, Devon Baird, a dredge owner, and 21-year-old Clifford Andrews, miner from Chenapau, were walking along a trail when ‘Blacka’ and 35-year-old Oswald Bourne, of Block 22 Wismar, ambushed them.
A shootout reportedly ensued, during which both Bourne and Baird were slain. Andrews managed to flee after being shot in the chest.
