Citizens of Georgetown and those in the city for various activities were treated to a colourful display by the Hare Krishna Movement yesterday.
The parade was held under the theme “Parading for Peace, ecological Harmony and Spiritual Unity.” The programme culminated with a cultural show at the Merriman’s Mall.
The programme was aimed at bring out people of different backgrounds together to pray for the progress and spiritual unity of Guyana. A lot of emphasis was placed on ecological harmony.
Mayor of Georgetown Hamilton Green participated in the event early in the day and Prime Minister Samuel Hinds was scheduled to attend the programme last evening.
The Hare Krishna movement in Guyana this year hosted devotees from various parts of the United States and also from Ghana and Nigeria.
The Festival of the Chariot was started in 1967 by the Hare Krishna Movement’s Founder-Acharya Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, and now it takes place annually around the world.
