A 52-year-old man who is accused of indelicately assaulting a five-year-old girl, yesterday, was denied his pretrial liberty by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.
The man, Winston Jardin, was not required to plead when the charge was read to him. It is alleged that between May 1, 2010 and May 31, last, Jardin indecently assaulted the child. Jardin is being represented by attorney at law Jerome Khan.
The matter was called up to the bench and after a lengthy discussion, Jardin was remanded to prison. He is expected to make another court appearance on June 30.
Also appearing before the same Magistrate was Michael Sukandan, 31, of 135 Grove Squatting Area, who was accused of breaking into a motorcar.
It was alleged that on June 3, at Sandy Babb Street, Sukandan stole one laptop computer valuing $120,000 which was the property of Alexi Ramotar. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was unrepresented.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to bail. The court was told that the articles were recovered. The prosecutor explained that Sukandan had called Ramotar and demanded money from her for the return of the items.
The prosecutor further told the court that it was not the first time that the defendant had appeared in court to answer similar charges.
Sukandan is to make another court appearance on June 30.
