The Guyana Cycling Federation National Road Racing Championships pedals
off tomorrow from the Ocean View Hotel starting at 7:30am. The event has been sponsored by Trophy Stall and GT Express Taxi Service.
There will be three separate starts with two minutes intervals between each start.
The Seniors will go first, followed by the juniors then the veterans
and ladies. The Seniors Route will take them to DeHoop, Mahaicony and back to the Ocean View Hotel. The Juniors will travel to Mahaica Old Road, come down the New Road and back to the finish at Ocean View Hotel.
The Veterans and Ladies will go to Old Road, Mahaica and turn back at Belfield Car Park.
Bryan Allen, Chairman of the Racing Committee said all four categories are expected to be highly competitive as each cyclist in the respective category will be going all out to wear the “Winner’s Jersey” and having the distinction and honour of being crowned “National Road Racing Champion” of his/her respective class.”
The Senior Race should really be a gem although Geron Williams, who is presently training in the USA, will not be here. However, there are the likes of Alonzo Greaves, Robin Persaud, Marlon “Fishy” Williams, Warren “Forty” McKay and Junior Niles to set the course ablaze.
However, the dark horse could be Jude Bentley who although not fully back to his old form has been riding well recently and could end up in the winner’s circle.
Most of the juniors have been riding very well with Neil Reece, Paul DeNobreiga, Esau O’Selmo, Kurt La Rose and Daniel Major being in top shape.
Chris Holder in back in the saddle after taking time off for his CXC Exams and if he is anything close to his full fitness, he can come away victorious. Marcia Dick is the favourite among the ladies although some stiff competition can be expected from Kazina Barrett and Naomi Singh.
On the Veterans side, look for the fight to be among Virgil Jones, Gary Benjamin and Kennard Lovell.
Registration is at 7 a.m. and all cyclists must wear their club colours and walk with their licenses’.
