Reds Perreira launches book today at Pegasus

Hopes his story is an inspiration to youths

Seventy-one year-old International Cricket Commentator and Regional Sports Administrator Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira is a living Sports encyclopedia and today he will launch his autobiography “Living My Dream” at the Pegasus Hotel from 16:00hrs.
Among the personalities expected to be part of this afternoon’s proceedings are Sports Minister Dr Frank Anthony, Sir Shridath Ramphal and Dave Martins.
The books, available to the public at $3,000 (GY) each, will be signed by the author. Perreira will also have signing sessions tomorrow from 9:30hrs to 11:00hrs at Austin’s Book store on Church Street and the Oasis Café, Carmichael Street from 12 noon to 13:00hrs.
The book, which chronicles the life of the illustrious sports personality from his early day growing up in the Pomeroon River to the launching of his Reds Pereira sports foundation in his native Guyana, also tells of how Reds overcame a very bad stutter to become one of the Region’s top Radio sports Commentators. It also tells of his stroke in Australia and his involvement with sports in the OECS.
The book was launched in St Lucia where Reds now reside and was also re-launched in Barbados, Antigua and Trinidad during the West Indies’ present Digicel home series against South Africa.
Reds said the book was not written to make money but to inspire the young people with the message that anyone can achieve anything once they work hard at it and have love and passion for whatever it is they do in life.
“I want this book to be assessable to a wide cross section of people and I hope that a private sector group would purchase copies of the book for secondary schools as was done in Jamaica and Trinidad.
Reds will be in Guyana until Tuesday when he leaves for Barbados where he will be present at the 3rd Test match at the Kensington Oval. (Sean Devers)
