– Leacock / Barckoy into Men’s Doubles final
No.1 seed Shawna Gentle rebounded from a surprising first set loss against # 2 seeded player Krystal Sukra to win in three sets 1-6 6-1 7-5.
The underdog Sukra got off to a quick start rolling over Gentle 6-1 in the first set, before she uncharacteristically seemed to lose concentration, allowing the favourite to seize control and grab the second stanza by a similar margin as the first.
The deciding set produced an entertaining battle as both players engaged in long rallies, but Gentle used her superior experience to avoid the upset and wrapped up the set and title.
It was the second final that the luckless Sukra found herself on the wrong end of and she will hope its third time lucky when she returns in the Ladies Final on Friday to face Carol Humphrey.
In Men’s doubles results:
Leyland Leacock/Gilbert Barckoy def. Daniel Lopes /Gavin Lewis 6-0 6-4.
Lopes /Lewis came back from 5-1 down in the second set to make things interesting, but eventually lost to their much more experienced opponents who proceeded to the finals and will face favourites Jeremy Miller/Jason Andrews.
Men’s Singles action- Kijana Lewis won by walkover from Phillip Squires.
