… says Police laughed, didn’t take statement
An Alexander Village couple, rattled by a robbery last evening, was sunk deeper in distress when they visited the East Ruimveldt Police Station.
Fareeda Hassan, 35, and businessman Mohamed Shahabudeen Din, 43, were sitting just outside their home on a verandah when a gunman approached them just after 20:00 h. They have been residing at the 122 Third Street, Alexander Village, residence for the past year.
The woman said that the gunman, with a toque covering some of his face, placed the gun to her head and told her to be quiet. Din said that he was in shock at what was happening. His shock became even greater when the gunman grabbed at his neck and removed a gold chain before running away.
The woman said that she saw the man jump into a white Nissan car that was parked nearby.
When the couple went to the nearby East Ruimveldt Police Station, the couple claimed that the Police looked and them and made derogatory remarks, and declined to take a statement.
The distraught couple said they were very embarrassed at what took place at the East Ruimveldt Police Station.
They decided to go to the Brickdam Police Station to make a report. There, they said the Police took a report and advised them to return to the East Ruimveldt Police station.
