The New Building Society Limited second division 40 overs competition for teams in the Ancient County resumed after a break due to the May/June rainy season.
Hopetown United and Shieldstown, both of West Berbice, won their matches to emerge as winners of the West Coast and West Bank Zones, respectively.
Hopetown United bowled out Bush Lot Sports Complex for 73 with medium pacer Claude Saul picking up 4-9 from 2 overs and offspinner Kenje Sedoc 2-6 from 6 overs.
However when Hopetown replied they found themselves in early trouble as Bush Lot pacer Javid Saywack who picked up 3 early wickets engineered the early collapse as they slipped to 25-5.
It took a resilient partnership between Steffon Adams (18 no) and Sedoc 11 to guide Hopetown to 77-7 in 16.1 overs.
With Heeralall Bridgelall hitting 65 and Rasheid Haniff 38, Shieldstown did well to register 214-9 in their allotted 35 overs against D’Edward who made a valiant effort to overhaul the target as they needed a mere 4 runs off the last two balls with a wicket standing for victory. Unfortunately, the wicket fell with the penultimate ball of their reply.
Also recording half centuries during the latest round were Rawle Wade of Rainbow Generation, Tamesh Persaud of No. 3 and Inshan Ally of Sundown.
