When the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club host its July 18 Championship at the South Dakota Circuit, it could mark a defining occasion for local speedster Gavin Gayadin.
Gayadin, who competes in the Group 3 category in an invited comment with Kaieteur Sport Monday, last said that the upcoming Meet is a significant one for him and he is aiming for top honours this time.
A self-sponsored driver, Gayadin told this newspaper that he has made a lot of modifications to his BMW machine and has already started testing which has returned good results.
“I installed a new engine, made some other adjustments and testing so far has proven that the car is a lot faster and more reliable and I must extend thanks to the guys in the team who’ve done a marvellous job,” Gayadin informed.
A formidable driver, Gayadin said that his performance last year at Bushy Park really helped to boost his confidence in his ability and with the second leg of the Caribbean Series schedule to follow the July 18 Meet, the motivation to do well has heightened.
“I really would like to go to Barbados with the sort of confidence and car reliability that could boost Team Guyana’s chances of returning home holding on to the lead they currently have,” he said.
Gayadin, however, is calling on more members of the corporate community to come forward and offer their assistance to more competitors since spares and tyres are very expensive and they need such support.
“This sport is a very expensive sport and it is also growing in popularity at an alarming rate so there is no doubt that sponsors will be able to receive the kind of mileage they need,” he felt.
Speaking of the competition in his category, Gayadin spoke of the likes of Kemal Seebarran, Ravi Singh, Kem Lall, Ryan Rahaman and Kamal Rahaman as those who could prove a handful.
Gayadin said he is optimistic that the Meet will see full participation from home and abroad and all the categories will be fully subscribed and very competitive. Twenty-four races are carded for the day including those for Group Four, Three, Two, Rookies, 125cc Bike, and Go- karts.
