Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday refused to grant bail to a man who was accused of causing the death of a woman when he drove his minibus dangerously.
It is alleged that Trevor Boston, 33, of Pearl, East Bank Demerara, on April 3, at Croal Street, drove his minibus in a dangerous manner which resulted in the death of Alberta Nelson. He was not required to plead to the charge.
His lawyer Michael Sommersaul in a bail application told the court that his client was never involved in an accident before. He said Boston was driving along Croal Street when the woman walked into the path of the minibus.
Sommersaul said that she was taken to the Georgetown Hospital, where she died six days later.
Boston is expected to make another court appearance today.
Also appearing before the same magistrate was Michael Boodhoo, 50, of Forshaw Street, Queenstown.
The allegation was that Boodhoo on June 11 with the intent to defraud obtained from Kaleen Nezamadeen, one motor blower and an Air Condition unit by using a forged instrument – a Republic Bank cheque that was issued to Tent City.
When given a chance to speak, Boodhoo told the court that the Guyana Police Force has a personal agenda against him.
He said that last year alone they “trumped up” 28 charges against him. According to Boodhoo, all of the matters have been dismissed. He further told the court that no identification parade was done.
However Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to bail. The prosecutor said that Boodhoo went to the VC and requested the items mentioned in the charge.
He said that after he received the items Boodhoo gave the woman a bounced cheque. The prosecutor further told the court that the cheque was stolen from Tent City and the bank was informed.
Telford argued that bail should not be granted because Boodhoo was “a known con artist”.
Bail was refused and Boodhoo is expected to make another court appearance on July 8.
