Police and prison authorities are on the hunt for a 36-year-old drug convict, who escaped from the Mazaruni Prison on Monday.
A source said that Nigel Williams, called ‘Bull Eye’, of Charity Squatting Area, Essequibo, slipped away from prison warders while he was placed to work outside the compound.
According to reports, Williams was last seen working with other inmates near the prison farm. Warders later realised that he was missing when they took a head count at noon.
Kaieteur News understands that the fugitive was serving a three-year prison sentence for drug trafficking.
The authorities believe that the escaped convict is heading for the hinterland where the chance of recapture becomes more difficult.
His brother, on receiving the news of Bull Eye’s escape, traveled to Bartica with a view to getting his brother to surrender.
He met with the police yesterday and is currently moving with one group of the searchers in the hunt for the escapee.
