– Guyanese pair also makes it to Mixed Doubles semis
Keisha Jeffrey and Ashley Khalil pulled off a heart stopping 10/11, 11/6, 11-9 victory over a Guatemalan pair in the quarter-finals of the female doubles at the VIII Pan American Junior Squash Championships in El Salvador.
After losing the first game, the Guyanese, displaying the mental fortitude needed at the highest level, found their rhythm to take the second.
The third set produced another entertaining contest, but once again Jeffrey and Khalil proved their mettle to clinch victory.
They were expected to face an Ecuador pair in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, Jason Ray Khalil and Kayla Jeffrey emulated their siblings in the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles when they too managed to get past a Guatemala duo and to book a semi-final spot. After clinching first game 11/10, Khalil and Jeffrey lost a close second 9/11, before stamping their authority on the third to win 11/6.
They move on to face either heavyweights Mexico or the host nation El Salvador in the mixed doubles semi-final.
