An enticing advertisement in the Classified Ads of June 6 caught the eyes of a young lady who was eventually duped.
The young lady, Belinda Nauth, related that she saw an advertisement in the newspaper that stated, “vacancy for females between 18 to 26, must be living between Diamond and Soesdyke telephone # 697-1206.”
Nauth explained that she made a phone call last Friday to the number provided in the advertisement, and the man said that he was opening a store in Georgetown and wanted to help persons on the East Bank to secure jobs. He also reportedly said that transportation would be provided for the workers.
She disclosed that she met with the man the same day in Georgetown, and was told that a fee would have to be paid to purchase a T-shirt that bared the logo of the company. “He said $3,500 was the price for the top.”
Nauth further said that after handing over her money she was told that she would receive a telephone call notifying her when she will start work. However, she invited another friend to join her in the job application, and she was shocked to learn that after making contact with the said man that she was given a royal run around to have a meeting with him to enquire about the further details of the job.
“Me and my friend went to town and made many phone calls to this man and he said that he will meet us, but he had we holding on almost all day. Then he phone turn off now. This man is a petty scamp, but imagine how much people he done do that to.”
When this newspaper contacted the cell number provided, the call was forwarded to voicemail.
