ProAm boxing, edition number six is here once again and come Friday June 25 the organizers are anticipating a large crowd at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) when several of the countries top pugilists don gloves in four, four round bouts that has piqued the interest of the boxing community.
While the fight on the pundits’ lips is the catchweight affair between Leon ‘The Lion’ Gilkes and Anthony Augustin, the Mandessa Moses/Margaret ‘Chico’ Walcott catchweight affair has also piqued the interest of boxing buffs and Walcott is already dispatching threats to Moses. The latter fighter has always shown immense discipline and her responses to attitudes like those demonstrated by Walcott have been cool and calm. Nevertheless, as Alisa Marques can testify, Moses packs a devastating punch that could very well spell trouble for Walcott. Moses almost decapitated Marques when the two met just less than two months ago. Her devastating power has caused many aspiring pugilists to steer clear of her.
However, the latter fighter has been in several wars and is the more experienced of the two fighters. To date Moses has scored two wins from as many fights; the first against Kwinda Rogers in the inaugural Berbice ProAm and a devastating knockout over Marques.
How well she could withstand pressure is still uncertain. Walcott will come out steaming, hoping to cash in on Moses’ inexperience. Obviously the younger Moses would want to etch her mark in the local boxing annuls as being the boxer to defeat another whose experience far outweighs her. This promises to be an intriguing match up.
Wilmut Hutson would be out to repair his image following a loss to Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ in the fourth edition of the ProAm cards. He opposes Orland ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers, another Dharry victim. Dharry had tattooed Rogers’ face and left him in a sorry state in that BrisO Promotions bout at the Princess Hotel recently. The Hutson bout is a more balanced fight and could produce fireworks if both principals enter the ring with the usual ambitions to win.
In the final bout of the professional segment of the card Clive Atwell, who commenced his professional career with a sound thrashing of Carlton Skeete, would want to continue in that vein when he opposes Mark Austin, another debutant in the night’s curtain raiser. Austin has already promised to beat up Atwell as he had done when the two met in the amateur ranks.
But that had been a long time ago when Atwell was still a greenhorn. He has since honed his skill to the extent that he is now a force to be reckoned with. Austin remains unperturbed and is adamant that he has just what it takes to defeat Atwell.
With such action, boxing buffs would not want to miss one punch, one round of the card. The action gets underway from 19:00hrs. Television viewers can be a part of the action by tuning in to NCN 11 to catch the action as it unfolds.
