Dear Editor,
Since reading about the Kelvin Fraser shooting incident in the newspapers, I’ve been looking for the President, Prime Minister or some other government minister’s response and sad to say this doesn’t seem to be forthcoming.
I applaud Mr. Robert Corbin, Freddie Kissoon, Mark Benchschop and Lincoln Lewis for standing up in support of his parents, relatives and peers.
It is indeed unfortunate that all those organisations that claim to represent the rights of the child seem not to care. As a mother of teenagers myself I can’t help but wonder how can they sleep at nights knowing that it could have been a relative of theirs.
To the Police Commissioner, I guess it’s asking too much of you to say what kind of justice would be given to this family and the rest of the nation for all of our youths who have been tortured or killed by your trigger-happy officers.
I know that asking for anyone to accept responsibility and resign is pointless in Guyana so I’m praying that my fellow Guyanese wake up from their slumber and really demand a change in the next election.
