Local weightlifters from across the country are scheduled to appear at the Stabroek Market area, just in front of the Demico House, to demonstrate theirs prowess when the Guyana Amateur Weightlifters Association (GAWA) stages an exhibition to commemorate International Olympic Day this morning starting at 10:00hrs.
According to Secretary of the GAWA, Deion Nurse activities would include a quiz where members of the public may win Olympic tokens for answering correctly to questions pertaining to Olympic sports.
Minister of Culture Youth and Sport, Frank Anthony and President of the GOA, Mr. K A Juman Yassin are expected to attend the function. Mr. Anthony will also use the opportunity to present one Olympic weight-lifting set to the GAWA, compliments of the President of the Pan American Weightlifting Federation, Mr. William Ozuna who visited Guyana as the guest of the GAWA last year and have made good on his promise.
