– says she is tired of waiting on the Police
Indra Persaud-Moonadai is tired to waiting for news of her missing 17-year-old son. She has planned to personally visit the area where her son was last reported to have worked.
Indra told this newspaper that while the Police have been conducting investigations, they have not yet given her any concrete information. But based on information she herself has received from various sources, Indra will travel to Mahdia to try to locate her son if he is alive, or to bring his body home if he is dead.
Seventeen-year-old Mikey Moonadai, of Friendship Squatting Area has been missing since January 1, last. His parents received reports of his suspected death by malaria. However, investigations by his parents and the Police did not confirm that report.
According to Indra, Mikey left home the day after Diwali, to go and work at a Mahdia location.
It was alleged that he changed jobs more than once. On New Year’s Day Mikey called home and told his father that he would be coming home for Easter. He never arrived.
The family later received information that Mikey had died in the backdam and had been buried.
Indra tried desperately to get more information about her son. She called the Mahdia Hospital, the Mahdia Health Centre and the Mahdia Police Station. A visit to Police Headquarters at Eve Leary also yielded the same results – nothing.
In the midst of her heartache, Indra received more devastating news, this time that Mikey had been murdered. The informant alleged that Mikey had been bludgeoned to death with a piece of wood while he was asleep. The unknown informant would not give her the name of the camp, except to say that there were four camps near each other and her son was buried somewhere between them.
The distraught woman took the information to Police Headquarters and a commitment was given that a team would have travelled to the mining district late last week to begin investigations. Indra should have accompanied them, but she was unable to raise the necessary finance for food and accommodation.
In her latest report from the police, the woman says that they have found nothing as yet, but are still searching. Indra intends to travel to Mahdia in the very near future and conduct her own investigation.
Mikey’s family is asking anybody with information about the teenager to contact them on the following numbers, or to call the nearest police station: 6835043, 6445849, 2304368, and 6726722.
