– being hosted for the first time in the Caribbean
Guyana will be among more than 600 regional and international participants from financial sectors at the Fifth Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum (LACCF) set for the Dominican Republic in October.
The Carbon Forum is the leading conference and trade fair for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and carbon finance in the region. It will identify and advance opportunities for Latin American and Caribbean countries to increase their participation in this multimillion dollar market.
At the forum, financial institutions, agencies and investors will share their experiences and best practices and identify and facilitate business opportunities.
The core objective of the LACCF is to bring together main actors of the carbon market in order to share experiences on the integral process of CDM projects, learn about the latest developments of emission trading schemes and the future of the CDM, analyse national and international climate change mitigation policies and facilitate the negotiation of emissions.
It is specifically aimed at updating the challenges associated with global climate change, and recent developments in the international carbon market, as well as to incorporate environmental aspects into energy planning and policy worldwide, with a special emphasis to assist developing countries.
Participants at the forum will be drawn from 12 countries from South America, seven from the Caribbean, six from Central America, Mexico and Algeria.
The Forum is co-organised by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the government of the Dominican Republic, the Latin American Energy Organisation (OLADE), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the World Bank Institute (WBI), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the UNEP Risoe Centre.
