– body discovered in bathroom of Male ward
Authorities of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) are investigating the death of a patient whose lifeless body was discovered in the bathroom of the Male Medical Ward on Monday night.
According to a source, a patient who got up to use the facility, saw the door to the bathroom wide open and heard water running. When he looked into the bathroom, he saw the patient known as Ramesh, lying on the floor with the water running on his face. The patient called out to the nurse and went on to use the lavatory as he had intended.
This newspaper understands that when the nurses checked on the patient in the bathroom, they discovered that he was dead.
Ramesh, who had told the hospital staff that he was a beggar on the streets of the city, had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday.
Chief Executive Officer of the GPHC Michael Khan told this newspaper that he is aware of the patient’s death but could not give an informed comment at the time. He explained that he was awaiting the results of the post mortem which has been scheduled for today, and that the newspaper could contact him for a further comment afterwards.
