– AAG will also host CARICOM 10km trials
The Guyana Olympic Association’s (GOA) annual Olympic Day Fun Run, Jog and Walk will be held on Sunday, beginning and ending outside the YMCA, with Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) using the same course for its CARICOM 10km trials.
Detailing information pertaining to the two events that will be held simultaneously, President of the AAG, Colin Boyce told Kaieteur Sport last evening that events are scheduled to commence at 6:30am with assembly time for participants set at 6:00am.
Teams comprising four males and two females from schools, clubs and organisations are invited to compete in the Fun Run, Jog and Walk while seasoned athletes will vie for a chance to make a CARICOM team to compete in Jamaica early in July.
The teams in the GOA event will compete for a $50,000, $35,000 and $25,000 first, second and third place prize. Registration is free, and closes tomorrow at Olympic House at 4pm and is open to a host of interested individuals, schools, clubs and organisations.
Boyce indicated that persons under 10 years old will not be allowed to participate. He said all six of the team-members must complete the Olympic Day event to be eligible for the prizes while all participants will be issued with a certificate when they finish.
On the subject of the CARICOM trials, Boyce said that the occasion will also be used to select a team to compete at the CARICOM 10km Road Race in Jamaica. The composition of the team is still to be determined based on Government’s sponsorship.
