– Goliah beats Fraser in ‘C’ Class final
Joel Alleyne came from being a set down to win the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Independence ‘B’ Class title while Xen Goliah outclassed Samuel Fraser in the ‘C’ Class final to win that category when the tournament continued yesterday.
Alleyne lost the first set 4-11 but returned to win 12-10, 11-9 and 11-8 to close out Edinho Lewis and win the ‘B’ Class title while Goliah defeated Fraser 12-10, 11-8 and 11-5 in the ‘C’ Class at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Meanwhile, up to Kaieteur Sport’s press time last night, the Men’s Singles competition had reached its quarter-final stage with national coach, Linden Johnson indicating that he wanted to close off the event last night.
In other results from Sunday, Chelsea Edghill and Nathalie Cummings defeated Trenace Lowe and Lisa Lewis 9-11, 11-9, 11-6, 7-11 and 11-8 in the Women’s Doubles finals with third place going to the team comprising Akeicia Nedd and Adielle Rosheuvel.
Joel Alleyne and Hewley Griffith came back from being a set down to win the Men’s Doubles finals against Nigel Bryan and Warren Hackshaw 9-11, 11-6, 11-7 and 11-7. Dwayne Gibson and Edinho Lewis won third place from Mark Edwards and Patrick Triumph.
Bryan defeated Joel Alleyne at 11-8, 11-4 and 11-4 in the 21 Years and Under Open finals. Third place went to Dwayne Gibson who edged Denzel Hopkinson at 8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-3 and 11-8.
In the Women Singles finals, Natalie Cummings defeated Adielle Rosheuvel at 16-14, 11-7, 9-11 and 11-7; third place went to Akeicia Nedd. In the semi-finals Cummings defeated Chelsea Edghill 11-7, 13-11 and 11-4 and Rosheuvel defeated Nedd 11-5, 11-9 and 11-7.
