The Berbice Cricket Board over the past couple of years under the Presidency of Keith Foster has completed over one hundred projects and along the way has created several first division cricketers in Guyana.
The Board on June 25, 2010 will create history yet again when it joins hands with the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) to produce a Coaching DVD for young cricketers in the Ancient County.
This DVD would be the first ever to be produced by a Cricket Board in the Caribbean and would be a major achievement for the Berbice Board as it aims to lift the standard of the game an all time high.
Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and chairman of the Berbice Cricket Board Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster, who is spearheading the project, said that the main aim of the project is to assist in the development of every available and potential talent in the County.
He noted that with the renewed emphasis of coaching by the Board via its Elite Junior and Senior Coaching Programmes, the DVD would allow young cricketers to enhance their development by practicing at home on their own.
The BCB has established a Technical Committee headed by Senior Cricket Coach Adrian Amsterdam and includes Coaches Hubern Evans, Winston Smith, Andre Percival and Julian Moore. Former National Coach Albert Smith would also be on the panel and would serve as an advisor to Amsterdam.
Experienced journalist and Head of Matrix Video Production Christopher Holder has been contracted to produce and edit the DVD which would be distributed to all cricket clubs in Berbice as well as members of the Berbice Junior and Senior Elite Coaching programme.
The Board and RHTY&SC is expressing gratitude to Cellink for fully sponsoring the production of the project and Marketing Manager Mr. Wystan Robertson for his support.
Production of the DVD will commence in two weeks at the Albion Community Centre Ground and several national players have been identified to work along with the coaches and they include Sewnarine Chattergoon, Devendra Bishoo, Esuan Crandon, Homchand Pooran and Delbert Hicks.
The DVD will be unveiled at a Gala launch in early September.
Meanwhile the Board on Sunday last completed its Coaching Clinic for young cricketers by successfully hosting a batting clinic for 27 promising batsmen from the Under-13 to 19 levels.
The four hour session was conducted by cricket coaches Winston Smith and Julian Moore with assistance from national cricket captain Sewnarine Chattergoon at the Albion Community Centre Cricket Ground.
A total of 102 cricketers attended the four clinics for batsmen, spinners, fast bowlers and wicket keepers.
The junior Selection Committee along with the coaches would meet sometime this week to name a 32-man squad that would undergo further coaching under the Berbice Board’s Junior Elite Programme and 2010 Scotia Bank Cricket Academy.
On Sunday June 27, the Board would launch another segment of its training programme when 30 junior captains would be part of a seminar to improve their captaincy skills.
