– as Berbice prepares for DJ Stress & other competitions
Royston Crandon’s X1 defeated Sewnarine Chattergoon’s X1 by 6 runs in a specially arranged Twenty20 practice match which also served as a trial match forming part of the Berbice Cricket Board continued preparations for the upcoming DJ Stress T20 tournament and other upcoming Guyana Cricket Board competitions.
Playing at the Albion Community Centre Ground and batting first on a heavily grassed outfield, Crandon’s XI reached 108-8 off their allotted 20 overs. Raid Ally, a former Berbice Junior player top scored with 50 (4 fours & 1 six). Other batsmen reaching double figures were Richard Ramdeen 14 and Jason Sinclair 12*.
National leg spinner Devendra Bishoo took 2-10 and off spinner Steven Latcha 2-20 off 4 overs each.
In reply, Chattergoon’s XI lost the former West Indies opener bowled by medium pacer Michael Newland for 1 and fellow opener Ramesh Boodram bowled by Keyron Fraser for 2 to leave their team in trouble at 7-2 in the 3rd over.
They eventually reached 102-9 when their overs expired; Rajendra Latchana 21, Vishal Singh 18 and Delbert Hicks 16, the principal scorers. Royston Crandon claimed 5-4 runs off 3 overs while off spinner Krisendat Ramoo had 2-23.
The players before the game were part of a one hour lecture on the Topic, ‘The Role of a Sport Ambassador and the Importance of being a Role Model’, Human Resource Manager of the East Berbice Estates Vemen Walter gave the lecture and told the attentive cricketers that when they represent the Ancient County they become ambassadors for all Berbicians, being discipline with a positive attitude.
Board President and some of his senior Executives met with the players after the practice match to review the progress of the Elite Training Programme and to get the players views on the Board’s developmental plans.
The players expressed satisfaction with the Board’s operation of the Elite Training Programme while urging them to make it an annual.
