– information being sought from public
The boat which was seized by police on Tuesday afternoon at a wharf at Rosignol is still in the Central Police Station compound. The police had received information that a boat was moored at a wharf. The river patrol moved in and the boat equipped with a Marina engine was seized. The boat which measures 15 feet by four feet is blue, red and white in colour. So far, Commander Steven Merai said that no one has come forward to claim the boat.
Investigators are linking this boat to the drug trade and believe it is used to transport illicit drugs, or either it has been stolen.
A senior rank told this publication that there is no doubt that the boat is a direct link between last week’s drug-bust, for which one man is now before the court.
About 09:15 hours last Thursday, police in Division ‘B’ acting on information received, intercepted a car (PFF 9723) at Plantation Profit, West Coast Berbice.
In March, a quantity of boats, engines, tarpaulins, mist blower, scales, jacks and other items suspected to be used in the drug trade were seized from areas along the Berbice River.
The Commander is asking anyone with information about the boat or if they would have lost a vessel to make contact with the police.
