Dear Editor,
I support Freddie Kissoon’s call for the resignation of Juan Edghill as Chairman of the Ethnic Relations Committee (ERC), Shalimar Ali-Hack as the DPP and Henry Greene as Commissioner of Police. I would add the Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee to the list. These four persons are non-performers.
One only have to go back to recent newspaper reports and check on the Pink suit case drug case, Peter Ramsaroop case, the Fazia Fashion case, the Polar Beer scam, the Guyflag scam etc. and you will see persons are not performing their duties in a fair and transparent manner as dictated in their Terms of Reference or the Constitution of Guyana.
The police force and the judiciary are in a mess as even judges and those in authority have admitted recently.
People in Guyana are living in fear and are afraid to voice their opinions for fear of being victimized by the authorities.
This is what democracy and free speech has come to as nothing has changed since the PNC days except for a new ruling cabal.
But Freddie should know that people in Guyana believe that when they are appointed to certain positions, they believe that the appointment is for life and they can only be removed by death.
Take for example the many sporting associations and trade unions, they have people serving as presidents for over 20 years, stifling fresh ideas and innovations.
Recently an independent poll shows that the PPP is losing ground and the PPP Secretary General, Mr. Donald Ramotar said it was a bogus poll, proving the point that those in positions in Guyana do not want to lose their positions or status.
Mr. Ramotar should be well advised that this writer has done his own personal poll and can confirm that the findings are very close to that of the CADRES poll except that the PNCR would lose significantly more votes than what CADRES stated and the beneficiary of those lost PNCR votes would go to the AFC.
Also a lot of young Indo-Guyanese, especially the educated ones are shifting away from the PPP to the AFC.
The next election would be a straight fight between the PPP and the AFC, but to be fair to the PPP, they still command the majority of the votes at the moment, but people can change their minds later if the corruption, discrimination and bad governance continue.
