‘De-mock-racy’ or hypocrisy?

Dear Editor,

The west under the banner of democracy and human rights has being responsible directly and indirectly for the removal of legally elected governments; through agitation caused military, civic, religious and financial unrests in many countries.

Democracy has since been the favoured system of government as man feels that he knows best while the rule of theology, rule of the divine, is seen as backward.

Muslims in particular have been branded with titles such as fundamentalist, terrorist, radicalist, Islamist by the westernized countries with the objective of creating stereotypes and imposing actions as they deemed necessary.

Now in France, the head of state is imposing a ban to prohibit Muslim women from wearing the veil.

He is quoted as saying, “the veil hurts the dignity of women and is not acceptable in French society.”

Where do the human rights come into the picture? Since the head of state’s objective behind banning the veil would not be more beneficial than the families, according to the report, who forced their women to wear the veil because he will be banning the veil from the women who choose to wear it willingly.

France’s head of state wants to liberate these women who are forced to wear the veil, but shouldn’t a woman be a dutiful wife to her husband, as her religion requires of her, unless he is asking her to do haraam (that which Islam prohibits).

Such an outcry by the French head of state that the veil is not accepted in the French society can only be seen as an attack on Muslim women and by extension Muslims.

If such a ban was to be considered by the Guyana Government, as one column writer is suggesting, then why not impose a ban on the women who expose themselves and offend others in their manner of dress with their unsightly body parts exposed than the women who conceal their beauty from the beastly eyes of strange men.
