Dear Editor,
Terrance Greaves in his letter, “The political naysayers continue to promote tidings of negativity”, (Kaieteur News, June 3, 2010) says, “Political naysayers do have their agenda. Theirs are to continuously promote tidings of negativity, when the landscape has positively changed.”
I am recording my disagreement with him by giving a short report of the “change” under President Jagdeo. 1) Manages an economy where 43 percent of the GDP comes from remittances; 2) Allegations by his common-law wife, Varshnie Singh, of domestic abuse; 3) Torture of civilians and army officers; 4) Commissioner of Police visas revoked; 5) Ministers of Home Affairs whose visas were revoked; 7) A press officer in allegation of sexual solicitation with a young boy and visas revoked; 7) Billions of dollars misused, stolen or unaccounted for in the Auditor General Report; 8) Highest rate of extra judicial killings; 9) Largest exodus of Guyanese to all parts of the world; 10) Government association with Roger Khan; 11) The most government buildings burn down when under investigation by the Auditor General’s office; 12) Taking away state advertisement from SN and Kaieteur News; 13) Shutting down CNS Channel 6 and HBTV Channel 9; 14) Refusing to grant radio licences; 15) Taking away fundings from organisations that do not support his government bad behaviour; 16) A narco and criminalised economy; 17) The greatest period of racial conflicts and intolerance; 18) Ronald Gajraj association with Axel Williams and the phantom squad; 19) Refusal to pass the Freedom of Information Act; 20) Milk Scam; 21) Dolphin Scam; 22) Motor Vehicles scam; 23) CLICO saga; 24) Minister pulling gun on a teenager in a bar over a woman; 25) Millions of dollars stolen from the Office of the President; 26) Reject Britian’s offer to improve Security in Guyana; 27) Sea wall/ Conservancy Dam scam; 28) Stealing AFC seat in Region 10; 29) Going around the world cap in hand begging; 30) No National Development Strategy; 31) Lusignan Murders; 32) Bartica Murders; 33) Lindo Creek Murders; 34) The GHRA partial list 449 deaths; 35) Mismanagement of sugar; 36) Mismanagement of bauxite; 37) Mismanagement of rice; 38) Mismanagement of GO-INVEST; 39) Misuse of state funding for the World Cup; 40) 2005 Great Floods; 41) Collapsed seawalls and refusal to dredge the mouths of the three main Rivers to ensure proper irrigation, ship loading and unloading; 42) Appointment of Steve Merai to head Berbice; 43) Relationship with Bernard Kerik ; 44) Cussing out and threatening the press; 45) Behaving undignified and un-presidential; and 46) Getting a fat retirement package for himself while the masses go hungry and cannot pay their bills. That is change you can believe in!
