“Weed” in biscuit box lands man in court

Shem John, who allegedly had in his possession 690 grams of cannabis sativa for the purpose of trafficking was yesterday refused bail when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
The allegation was that on June 1, at the Port Kaituma airstrip, John had the substance in his possession. He pleaded guilty to the charge. He was unrepresented.
The prosecutor told the court that on the day in question John was seen acting in a suspicious manner at the airport. The officers present conducted a search and the “weed” was found in a biscuit box that was in John’s possession. He was questioned by the ranks and he allegedly told them “it was lil’ weed officers”.
The magistrate asked John if he had anything to say, he told the magistrate that the police never tested to see if it was indeed cannabis.
“Meh worship how they know is weed I had….they never test nothing,” said John. After hearing that, the magistrate changed John’s guilty plea to not guilty and remanded him to prison.
John is expected to make another court appearance on August 3, the matter was also transferred to the Matthew’s Ridge Court.
