Ten (10) Ford 350 trucks were yesterday added to the Guyana Defence Force’s fleet of vehicles, compliments of the United States Southern Command (US SOUTH COM).
US SOUTHCOM Commander, General Douglas Fraser, handed over the vehicles to Commodore Gary Best at Base Camp Ayanganna.
The donation forms part of the US Force’s programme to train and equip its partner nations in combating terrorism.
Commodore Best expressed appreciation for the timely donation and noted that the vehicles would be utilized mostly in Special Operations.
Prior to the donation, the two Commanders met and discussed several issues relating to the existing bilateral relationship and co-operation between the two Forces.
Commodore Best praised the professionalism and dedication of the US forces, which have been engaging and providing Guyana with much needed expertise in various fields.
He also emphasized the need for the security co-operation through the office of the Military Liaison Officer, to continue in the future.
