– tried to make it look like an accident
In a dramatic twist of events, the police are now treating the Soesdyke/Linden Highway crash which claimed the life of 23-year-old taxi driver Damion Lindore as a murder, since one person has admitted that he was part of a gang that beat and robbed the man.
Kaieteur News understands that four persons, including a police rank from the Tactical Services Unit, and Lindore’s friend Kemal McCalmont, were taken into custody yesterday. McCalmont’s older brother has also been taken into custody.
This newspaper was told by a source close to the investigation that police arrested one suspect yesterday morning and the entire case came “cracking open”.
The source said that the man was allegedly killed by his close friends who had “envious feelings towards him”.
This newspaper was told that the man admitted he was part of a gang of several persons who beat the man and robbed him before dumping his body on the Highway. “That’s why the police never found any blood in the mangled vehicle….because the entire thing was staged,” the source said.
The suspect further told the police that they damaged the man’s vehicle and removed a number of articles. After intense interrogation, the suspect later implicated McCalmont and his older brother, whom he claimed lured Lindore to the scene.
Moreover, two other eyewitness have also come forward with pertinent information linking the four men who are in custody .
This newspaper was told that the eyewitness saw Lindore leave Linden with his Toyota Raum instead of a Toyota Allion which McCalmont had claimed.
The man said that he saw four men driving the man’s car in Linden hours later and enquired where Lindore was.
Kaieteur News understands that it was McClamont who answered and said that he did not know where Lindore was.
The eyewitness said he found it strange that McCalmont did not know Lindore’s whereabouts, adding that it was not customary for Lindore to allow people to drive his vehicles.
However the eyewitness did not take it seriously and left for the interior. It was only after the eyewitness returned from the interior on Monday, that he was informed Lindore had died under mysterious circumstances. The eyewitness immediately went to the police.
Lindore’s relatives from the inception had questioned circumstances under which the man had died.
Initial reports were that Lindore, called ‘Pinta’ or Dimi’, and 25-year-old Kemal McCalmont, both of Wisroc, Linden, were on their way to a resort on the highway when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a dog.
Lindore was reported to have subsequently lost control of the vehicle which toppled several times.
He was reportedly flung through the front windscreen of his car, HB 8153, which relatives said he had only bought a few months ago. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Linden Hospital Complex.
Lindore’s reputed wife, Nikisha Elexey, had told Kaieteur News that he had about $700,000 in his possession.
The money along with the dead man’s jewellery was missing when he was found. His vehicle was also stripped of its valuables.
