The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has expressed its pleasure in being able to congratulate Guyana’s sports ambassadors on their stellar achievements, especially outright victories.
In a release it was stated that, the Ministry now has occasion to congratulate Guyana’s premier rifle shooters who have just triumphed at the week-ends West Indies Full Bore Shooting Competition in Barbados – Guyana’s marksmen have done Guyana proud by winning both the Long Range and Short Range regional titles and winning overall team championship to capture both the Milex and Anchor Cups symbols of Regional Rifle Shooting supremacy.
From the 300 to 1000 yard ranges the Guyanese team dominated the points available to amass totals which were unassailable even by the emergent, plucky Antiguans. The Ministry urges all Guyanese to salute these outdoor sportsmen who made the Golden Arrowhead flutter in triumph in Barbados over the weekend.
The team should be mentioned: Captain Mahendra Persaud, Ransford Goodluck, Dylan Fields, Richard Fields, Ryan Sampson, Claude Duguid, Inspector Dane Blair, these shooters blew away the four country opposition. But these marksmen had excellent support from coaches ACP Paul Slowe and Lt. Col. Terry Stuart.
Reading weather, wind and all field conditions at the Barbadian Paragon Ranges, coaches and team combined to give Guyana another Caribbean Championship title to savour.
The Ministry is willing to discuss with our Rifle Association just what this regional championship status could do for this not-so-popular, rifle oriented sport in Guyana.
Rifle shooting is a specialized activity where weapons are used for friendly positive purposes as a sport which promotes precision, planning, team-work and all the values team-sports demand.
The Ministry also salutes individual Champion Marksmen Ransford Goodluck who fought back gallantly to win the Fullbore Individual Shooting title and also pay tribute to Coach and Veteran marksmen Assistant Commissioner Paul Slowe whose dedication to the sport is now legendary.
Last weekend’s victory for Guyana was truly a product of “one for all and all for Guyana”. It is now for us to plan how to maintain and sustain our status in the sports of Caribbean Rifle Shooting.
